Overview
A Grand Expedition from the Bustling Capital to the Lost Cities of Angkor
For active travelers who crave more than just standard sightseeing, the 5-Day Phnom Penh to Siem Reap Trekking Tour offers an extraordinary adventure through the heart of Cambodia. This specialized, high-impact itinerary connects Cambodia's modern capital with its ancient spiritual epicenter through human-powered exploration. By combining challenging wilderness treks with immersive cultural encounters, this tour bypasses the standard tourist highways and invites you to discover the true soul of Cambodia on foot. You will trek through the unique high-altitude pine forests of Kirirom National Park, walk along scenic rural trails in the Cambodian countryside, navigate the ancient, hidden forest pathways of the world-famous Angkor Archaeological Park, and conquer the sacred slopes of Phnom Kulen Mountain before exploring the raw, overgrown ruins of Beng Mealea temple.
Your adventure begins in Phnom Penh, where you will immediately leave the urban sprawl behind and drive southwest to Kirirom National Park, known historically as "The Mountain of Joy." This high-altitude plateau offers a cool refuge from the tropical plains, boasting Cambodia's only natural pine forests, dramatic cliff edges, and hidden waterfalls. On your first day, you will challenge your endurance with an extensive 14-kilometer trek, walking beneath the pine canopy, navigating single-track forest trails, and discovering quiet mountain shrines. After spending a peaceful night in the refreshing mountain air, you will complete a scenic 6-kilometer morning hike to explore historical ruins and scenic vistas before transferring back to Phnom Penh.
The journey then takes an epic turn northward towards Siem Reap. To break up the overland drive, you will step out of the support vehicle to embark on a stunning 15-kilometer trek through the authentic rural heartland of Kampong Thom province. Here, you will walk along quiet red-dirt paths, passing through traditional wooden stilt villages, waving to local children, and observing timeless agricultural scenes. Upon arriving in Siem Reap, the trekking reaches its historic peak. You will spend a full day on an epic 25-kilometer walking expedition through the ancient Angkor Archaeological Park. Walking on hidden forest tracks, you will approach legendary monuments like Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, and the jungle-strangled Ta Prohm from quiet, crowd-free entry points, stepping over ancient stone ruins and hearing the historical secrets of the Khmer Empire.
Your final day of active adventure is a spectacular grand finale. You will climb the forested slopes of Phnom Kulen, Cambodia's most sacred mountain plateau and the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. On a 12-kilometer trek, you will discover the extraordinary River of a Thousand Lingas—where sacred Hindu symbols are carved directly into the sandstone riverbed—and swim under a dramatic mountain waterfall. Your journey concludes at the magnificent, unrestored temple of Beng Mealea, a raw jungle masterpiece where you will trek over moss-covered sandstone blocks and under a thick forest canopy. Backed by professional adventure guides, private air-conditioned support vehicles, and premium hydration services, this 5-day trekking holiday is the ultimate, most active way to experience the spectacular natural and historic heritage of Cambodia.
